The Meteorological Service of Jamaica is warning residents to prepare for several days of unstable weather as two systems — a trough and a cold front — are set to influence conditions across the island.
In an advisory issued Tuesday, the Met Service reported that a trough now positioned across the western Caribbean is expected to pass over Jamaica late Tuesday night and remain in the area through Thursday. Forecasters say the feature will likely generate cloudy skies along with periods of showers and thunderstorms.
Rainfall activity may become heavy at times, with northern parishes projected to experience the greatest impact between Wednesday morning and Thursday.
Weather officials also indicated that an additional cold front is forecast to reach the island on Friday. Although this system is expected to be weaker than the current pattern, it could produce cooler temperatures and strong, gusty winds extending into the weekend, particularly across northern sections of the country.
Marine interests, including fishers, are being urged to exercise extreme caution. The Met Service warned that sea conditions are likely to worsen near areas of showers and thunderstorms on Wednesday and Thursday, with further deterioration possible from Friday as winds increase.
The agency says it continues to track both systems and will issue further updates as needed.
