CLARENDON, Jamaica — The National Works Agency (NWA) has announced that the May Pen Bridge, a primary access point into the town of May Pen, will be closed on Sunday, February 16, to facilitate emergency repair works. The closure is scheduled from 8:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.
Stephen Shaw, Communication and Customer Services Manager at the NWA, stated that the bridge’s narrow driving lanes necessitate a complete closure to ensure the safety and efficiency of the repair activities. The planned works involve removing severely rutted sections of the roadway, which will then be repaved.
Motorists traveling from Kingston or Lionel Town intending to enter May Pen are advised to continue along the Bustamante Highway, then proceed onto Glenmuir Road and Anderson Drive. Those heading east from the town toward Old Harbour and Spanish Town should follow the same route in reverse.
The NWA urges all motorists to adhere to posted warning signs and follow the instructions of flag personnel during the closure period to ensure a smooth and safe traffic flow.
Residents and commuters are encouraged to plan their journeys accordingly to accommodate the temporary disruption.
