SILETZ, OREGON — Authorities in Lincoln County are conducting a massive search for 2-year-old Dane Paulsen, who was reported missing Saturday afternoon. According to the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Department, the toddler was last seen playing in the front yard of his family’s home in Siletz around 4:25 p.m., “out of sight of his parents.”
Officials report that search teams have already covered 382 acres and logged 283 miles in their efforts to locate Dane. Multiple search-and-rescue teams, 40 investigators, aerial drones, human trailing dogs, and 138 community volunteers are working together to bring the young boy home. In addition, marine teams and divers have begun searching the Siletz River.
Dane is described as having brown hair and green eyes. He was last seen wearing a gray, fuzzy hoodie with ears, black pants, and blue and white shoes. Authorities note that he is “friendly and fearless,” comfortable around strangers and water, although he cannot swim. He is also known to love water and vehicles.
While earlier in the day, an adult male and a 1990s gold-colored station wagon were observed in the area approximately 30 minutes before Dane’s disappearance, police have since located the driver and vehicle. These elements are no longer considered points of interest in the investigation. The Lincoln County Major Crime Team, along with the FBI and its Victim Service Division, are assisting with the case and processing any new leads.
Despite the extensive efforts, Dane’s disappearance does not currently meet the criteria for an Amber Alert, as authorities have not determined that he is in imminent danger or that a criminal abduction is involved. “There is no evidence at this time to suggest criminal actions are involved in this incident,” a police spokesperson said.
The Lincoln County Sheriff’s Department expressed gratitude for the community’s assistance, stating, “We thank our community for sharing information and tips related to this investigation. Our team and the community are working tirelessly to bring Dane home.” Community members interested in aiding the search can check in with camp hosts at the Elks Toketee Illahee campground on Monday, or report any relevant information by calling 541-265-0669.
Additional updates on the search and any new developments will be disseminated via social media and FlashAlert as the investigation continues.
