MANCHESTER, Jamaica — April 17, 2026 — Detectives in Manchester have launched an investigation following the fatal shooting of a man in New Berry, near Newport, on Thursday morning.
The deceased has been identified as 57-year-old Rory Curtain, a landscaper from Green Street in the parish.
Reports from the police indicate that shortly after 9:00 a.m., Curtain was carrying out gardening duties at a residence in the New Berry community when he was approached by an armed assailant. The gunman opened fire, hitting the landscaper before fleeing the scene.
Curtain’s killing marks the 11th homicide recorded in Manchester since the start of the year. During the same period last year, five murders were reported, reflecting a significant increase in violent incidents within the parish.
Investigators are continuing their probe into the circumstances surrounding the attack.
