St. Catherine, Jamaica – December 31, 2024 – A 23-year-old man, identified as Isaac Foster from Penny Piece District in Kitson Town, St. Catherine, was shot dead on Monday after disrupting a burial at the Dovecot Memorial Park.
According to reports, the incident occurred around 2:15 pm. A video of the event has since surfaced on social media.
Witnesses reported that Foster, believed to be of unsound mind, approached the graveside and disrupted the funeral proceedings. The police report details that Foster allegedly struck a mourner on the head with a concrete block and attempted to remove the body from the casket.
He then reportedly began throwing stones at the mourners, including two licensed firearm holders.
The police report states that Foster advanced towards the licensed firearm holders, who, fearing for their lives, discharged their weapons, hitting Foster. Law enforcement officers arrived at the scene and upon seeing the armed individuals, discharged their firearms into the air. They then instructed both men to drop their weapons, which they complied with.
Foster and an injured mourner were transported to the Spanish Town Hospital. Doctors pronounced Foster dead upon arrival. The mourner received treatment for his injuries and was later released.
The incident is currently under investigation by the Jamaican Constabulary Force.
