The Montego Hill police in St. James are investigating the circumstances surrounding the shooting death of a man in the RePasture area of Salt Spring on Monday night.
The deceased has been identified as 23-year-old Israel Hemmings, also known as ‘Marley,’ of Salt Spring.
Reports indicate that around 7:00 p.m., Hemmings and a female companion were at his home when a group of men armed with high-powered weapons entered the yard.
Hemmings ran inside the house and attempted to close the grill, but the men opened fire, hitting him multiple times. The female companion ran but was caught by the gunmen, who later released her.
The gunmen then left the scene, and the police were summoned. Upon arrival, officers found Hemmings suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. He was rushed to the hospital, where he was treated and admitted in serious condition.
Hemmings succumbed to his gunshot injuries on Tuesday.
