The Mount Salem police in St. James have launched a manhunt for three men, one of whom used an illegal firearm to shoot another man in the community on Monday night.
The victim, who has since been treated at the hospital, has been identified as a 32-year-old resident of Kathan Lane, also in Mount Salem, St. James.
Reports indicate that around 8:30 p.m., the victim was walking along the roadway in Mount Salem when he saw a group of men, one of whom pointed him out as a resident of Kathan Lane.
The victim went to purchase food at a nearby restaurant, and on his way back, he encountered the same group of men. One of the men pulled out a handgun and opened fire, hitting him.
The injured man managed to run from the scene to the nearby police station, where he was assisted to Cornwall Regional Hospital, treated, and admitted.
A search for the gunmen was conducted but was unsuccessful.
The community of Mount Salem has been under a Zone of Special Operations since 2017.
