A 39-year-old man was taken into custody by the police following a confrontation between officers and armed men in Georges Plain, Westmoreland.
Reports indicate that around 11:00 p.m. on Saturday, residents heard gunshots coming from the Poopy Street area of Georges Plain and alerted the police.
Upon arrival, the police intercepted a Honda Stepwagon in Farm Pen. The vehicle attempted to evade them, but the driver lost control, causing it to hit an embankment and overturn.
One man jumped from the vehicle, opened fire at the police, and then escaped into the bushes.
During a search, the police found the driver suffering from gunshot wounds. He was taken to the hospital, where he was treated and admitted under police guard.
