 Man on Trial After Using $397K Forged Cheque to Purchase Engine Oil

The trial of a St. James man accused of using a forged $397,000 cheque to purchase engine oil from Toyota Jamaica began in the St. James Parish Court on Wednesday.

On Wednesday, several witnesses testified in relation to the charge against Royan Johnson, who is accused of obtaining goods by forgery.

In accordance with court documents, a man connected to Johnson visited Toyota Jamaica at some point in December 2020 and requested a quotation for engine oil.

The quotation was given to him, and he later handed it to Johnson.

Later on in the same month, Johnson went to Toyota Jamaica, where he gave the salesperson the quotation along with a cheque for $397,000 and received the engine oil.

The cheque was later confirmed to be forged, and the Area One Fraud Squad was alerted.

Johnson was later arrested and charged by detectives from the Area One Fraud Squad.

The trial is to continue at a later date.
