St. Catherine, Jamaica: A former resident of Central Village was shot dead by gunmen on Wednesday after returning to the volatile St Catherine community.
The man, whose identity was not released by police at the time of reporting, had reportedly been warned not to return to the area due to a past conflict.
Residents indicated that the victim had once lived in Central Village but was forced to flee some time ago after becoming embroiled in a dispute. According to local sources, the man had been “marked for death” and was told by individuals in the area that he would be killed if he ever returned.
Despite the warnings, the man re-entered the community on Wednesday and was subsequently shot and killed. “All of us know him,” one resident remarked, adding, “It is just that when you run away from a community, you should not look back. He came back and man see him and knock him.”
This incident sheds light on the persistent tensions in some areas of St Catherine, where longstanding conflicts continue to pose dangers for those involved.
Investigations are ongoing.
