Man Killed in Little Haiti, Negril, Westmoreland

The Negril police in Westmoreland have commenced a probe into the shooting death of a man, which took place in a section of the resort capital known as Little Haiti on Sunday night.

The deceased has been identified as 29-year-old O’Keefe Barnes, a construction worker from Clarendon, who had been living in Negril up to the time of his death.

Reports indicate that around 8:45 pm, Barnes was standing at a location in Little Haiti when he was approached by a man armed with a handgun. Upon seeing the armed man, Barnes ran, but the gunman gave chase and opened fire, hitting him multiple times.

The gunman escaped on foot, while the police were summoned. Upon arrival, Barnes was discovered lying along the roadway in a pool of blood with multiple gunshot wounds to his upper body.

He was rushed to the Savanna-la-Mar Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
