Police Search River for Missing St Elizabeth Woman:A 41-year-old man is in police custody on suspicion of killing his former partner and dumping her body in a river in Barton Wharf, Lacovia, St Elizabeth.
The missing woman has been identified as Nicole Brown, a 50-year-old farmer from Barton Wharf district. She has been missing since Sunday, August 2.
Deputy Superintendent of Police Owen Brown told The Gleaner that the suspect was rescued from an angry mob by police early Tuesday morning before being taken into custody.
Residents reportedly claimed the man confessed to dumping Brown’s body in the river before he was attacked by members of the community.
Police have launched an intensive search for Brown’s body and are awaiting assistance from the Jamaica Defence Force Coast Guard.
“The citizens are gathered here on the location; we are waiting the arrival of the assistance of the coast guard in locating her body. Some citizens have tried, they have dived, but they have not yet located the body,” DSP Brown said.
According to an earlier missing persons report from the Lacovia Police, Brown was last seen at her home around 10:00 p.m. on Sunday. She is of dark complexion, slim build, and about 152 centimetres (5 feet) tall. The clothing she was wearing when she disappeared is unknown.
Police said efforts to locate Brown have so far been unsuccessful. Investigations remain ongoing.
