St Mary, Jamaica – Authorities have taken a man into custody as they investigate the death of a pregnant woman, whose body was found wrapped in a tarpaulin in Devon Pen, St Mary, on Sunday.
The suspect, reportedly a bus driver and the spouse of the deceased woman, was detained during an operation at his home along Sligo Road, off Mountain View Avenue in St Andrew, earlier today. He was escorted to the location in handcuffs as forensic investigators, police officers, and Jamaica Defence Force soldiers conducted a detailed search of the property the couple is believed to have shared.
Residents of the area said the woman, known locally as “Jay,” was last seen alive on Saturday. They expressed shock at the sight of security forces arriving in their community this afternoon.
The grim discovery was made on Sunday when St Mary residents noticed a tarpaulin over a precipice and summoned the police. Upon investigation, the body of the woman, believed to be in her late 20s and around six months pregnant, was found.
She was wearing a white t-shirt, blue underwear, and black socks. Distinctive tattoos, including the words “JvsC” and “Labeeb” on her thighs and a cross on her chest, have aided in preliminary identification efforts, although her official identity has not yet been disclosed by authorities.
Investigations are ongoing as law enforcement works to piece together the events leading to the young woman’s death. Further updates will be provided as they become available.
