Man Gunned Down by Police in Rock Hall – INDECOM Launches Probe

St Andrew, Jamaica (McKoy’s News) – Gunshots shattered the early-morning silence in Rock Hall, St Andrew, as a 35-year-old man was fatally shot by police during what lawmen say was a confrontation just before dawn.

The deceased has been identified as Joel Alphonso, a resident of Rock Hall. Reports are that the shooting occurred around 4:35 a.m., shaking the quiet rural community out of its sleep and into shock.

Alphonso was rushed to the Kingston Public Hospital, but was pronounced dead shortly after arrival.

Police have confirmed that a firearm was seized at the scene. However, the circumstances of the encounter remain unclear and have drawn the attention of the Independent Commission of Investigations (INDECOM), which has now launched a formal probe into the fatal incident.

The Constant Spring Criminal Investigation Branch is also actively investigating, as questions swirl around what led to the deadly exchange.

This shooting adds to the rising toll of police-related fatalities across the island. As of August 12, security forces have fatally shot 194 persons—four of them this month alone.
