St. Andrew, Jamaica — A Kingston man, Robert Mahoney, was on Tuesday hit with fines totaling more than $1.5 million after pleading guilty to multiple ganja-related charges stemming from a major drug bust in 2024.
His wife, who was jointly charged in the matter, was found not guilty.
Mahoney was slapped with the following penalties:
- $15,000 for possession of ganja
- $1 million or three months’ imprisonment for dealing in ganja
- $500,000 or three months’ imprisonment for using premises for ganja storage
The charges came after a November 30, 2024, operation by detectives from the Firearms and Narcotics Investigations Division of the Jamaica Constabulary Force (JCF), who conducted a raid at a property owned by the couple.
During the search, 50 cardboard boxes containing approximately 892 pounds of ganja were discovered on the premises.
Both Mahoney and his wife were out on bail throughout the proceedings. The matter concluded on Tuesday with the court delivering the guilty verdict against Mahoney, while his wife was acquitted of all charges.
The couple was represented by attorneys-at-law Chadwick Berry and Christopher Townsend
