St Catherine, Jamaica: The Independent Commission of Investigations (INDECOM) has launched an investigation into the fatal shooting of a man by police on Tuesday along St. John’s Road in Spanish Town, St. Catherine.
The deceased has been identified as 22-year-old Jason Taylor, unemployed, of St. John’s Road.
According to reports, around 7:30 a.m., a team of officers arrived at the area searching for Taylor, who was wanted for questioning.
Upon arriving at the premises occupied by Taylor, officers allegedly observed him climbing out of a blue barrel with an illegal firearm in his hand. Taylor reportedly pointed the weapon at the police, prompting them to take evasive action and open fire, hitting him multiple times.
A 9mm semi-automatic pistol fitted with a magazine containing several live rounds was reportedly recovered from Taylor. He was transported to the hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
