PORTMORE, St. Catherine – A man was fatally shot on Monday night after allegedly engaging a police party in an armed confrontation on Crusher Lane in Old Braeton, Portmore.
According to police reports, at approximately 7 p.m., officers were conducting an operation when the man reportedly opened fire on them. In response, police took evasive action, and during the ensuing exchange, the man was shot and injured.
Authorities later seized a Taurus G2 nine-millimetre pistol from the scene, which was found with a magazine containing five rounds.
The man was transported to Spanish Town Hospital, where he was pronounced dead. No further details about his identity have been released at this time.
The Independent Commission of Investigations has initiated a probe into the incident as investigations continue. Police are urging anyone with additional information to come forward.
