White Hall, St Thomas – A man was shot and killed by police during an operation in White Hall, St Thomas, on Tuesday morning. The deceased has been identified as Franklyn Hyman.
The incident, which was captured on video by residents, is now circulating on social media. The footage shows multiple officers of the Jamaica Constabulary Force (JCF) surrounding a house while a neighbor urges Hyman to surrender. Moments later, gunshots are heard, and four officers are seen carrying a body toward police service vehicles.
The St Thomas police have confirmed the fatal shooting but have not provided additional details regarding the operation.
Hyman’s mother, Shanna Johnson, has accused law enforcement of wrongdoing, insisting that her son was innocent. She claimed that police had harassed him in the days leading up to his death.
She stated that police searched his home the previous week and threatened his girlfriend. Days later, they detained him for questioning and held him for five days before releasing him without charges.
She further alleged that the police had previously threatened to kill her son and carried out their plan on Tuesday morning while he was preparing for work.
Residents are calling for an independent investigation into the incident, as questions remain about the circumstances surrounding Hyman’s death.
