An early-morning police operation in Bridgeport, Portmore, St Catherine ended in a fatal shooting on Wednesday, authorities have confirmed.
According to police reports, a team of officers was conducting an operation along Andrea Crescent at about 6:00 a.m. During the exercise, officers reportedly entered a premises and were confronted by a man who was said to be armed.
Police stated that the officers responded by taking defensive action and discharged their weapons, hitting the man. He was later found holding a firearm, identified as a .38 revolver containing six rounds of ammunition.
The injured man was transported to the Spanish Town Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
The Independent Commission of Investigations (INDECOM) has launched a probe into the circumstances surrounding the incident.
