Lopez, who had just been baptized earlier in the day as part of a church ceremony, lost his life while attempting to rescue a teenage girl struggling in the water.

The incident unfolded on Sunday afternoon when Lopez, along with members of his church group, was spending time at the lake following the baptismal ceremony. Witnesses report that the girl began to show signs of distress while swimming. Without hesitation, Lopez jumped into the water to save her.
