Kingston, Jamaica: Clive Roy Davis, one of five men arrested in August in connection with what the police describe as the largest drug bust in Jamaican history, has been denied bail by the Supreme Court.
Justice Leighton Pusey made the decision on Monday, citing concerns that Davis, who was recently deported, poses a high flight risk.
Prosecutors revealed that Davis had previously admitted to being deported to Jamaica six months prior to his arrest. Furthermore, they highlighted inconsistencies in his immigration records, suggesting a history of entering the country through unofficial channels.
Justice Pusey concluded that Davis could potentially flee the country again, given his previous immigration history.
Davis, along with Junior Aldayne, Collin Ricketts, George Sterling, and Clayton Peart, were arrested in August following a police raid that uncovered 2,526 kilograms of cocaine with an estimated street value of over US$75 million.
The men face charges of possession of cocaine, dealing in cocaine, trafficking cocaine, and conspiracy. While two of his co-accused were previously granted bail, Davis and two others were denied.
Davis is scheduled to appear back in court on January 14, 2025, for a plea and case management hearing.
