MONTEGO BAY, St James — A man accused of unlawfully entering a taxi driver’s vehicle and stealing over $10,000 made his appearance before the St James Parish Court last Wednesday.
The defendant, Javille Gitchie, faces a charge of simple larceny and is being represented by attorney-at-law Adrian Dayes. The alleged incident occurred on February 28 in the vicinity of a gas station in Montego Bay, St James.
According to court documents, the complainant, a taxi driver operating a black Voxy motor vehicle, left his car unlocked while heading towards a shop to solicit passengers. He reportedly left $12,000 in the vehicle but returned to find only $1,650 remaining.
Security camera footage from the petrol station allegedly captured Gitchie entering the complainant’s vehicle. After discovering the missing money, the complainant reported the incident to the police, leading to Gitchie’s arrest and subsequent charge.
During Wednesday’s court session, it was revealed that the prosecution’s case file was incomplete. As a result, the matter was rescheduled for April 23, 2025.
Gitchie’s bail was extended until the new court date.
