Spanish Town, St. Catherine: A 32-year-old man has been arrested and charged in connection with the shooting and beating of a teenage girl in Spanish Town last year.
Kevon McCallum, of Beacon Hill, was charged with attempted murder, wounding with intent, assault at common law, possession of a prohibited weapon, unauthorized possession of ammunition, and using a firearm to commit a felony on Monday.
The incident occurred on February 13, 2024, around 10:00 p.m. The teenage victim was allegedly brought to McCallum to be reprimanded for stealing money from a relative.
During the confrontation, McCallum reportedly beat the girl, then brandished a firearm, pointed it at her head, and fired a single shot, injuring her.
The victim was rushed to the Spanish Town Hospital and subsequently transferred to the Kingston Public Hospital for further treatment.
Following a thorough investigation, McCallum was arrested and subsequently charged. He is scheduled to appear in the St. Catherine Parish Court at a later date.
