Jamaica News: A St. James man who allegedly assaulted a Montego Bay businessman with a machete which resulted in the man having had to shot him in one of his legs, is yet to settle his legal representation.
Andre Croddock appeared before the St. James Parish Court on Wednesday, April 24 to face a charge of assault at common law.
The incident reportedly took place on February 9, 2019 at a popular Montego Bay beach where a party boat was docked.
It is alleged that Croddock went on the boat and was behaving in an intoxicated manner. He then took up a machete and uttered threats to persons who were there putting them in fear. The co-owner of the beach tried to calm him down but Croddock advanced towards him with the machete putting him in fear. The businessman had to take evasive action by shooting him in the leg.
The matter was reported to the police and Croddock was arrested and charged.
During Wednesday’s sitting, it was disclosed that Croddock was without an attorney, and he was instructed to visit the legal aid officer with a view to having an attorney assigned to him.
The matter was set for further mention on July 4 and Croddock’s bail was extended.
