Judge Reduces Bail For Fraud Case Defendant

Jamaica News: A St. James Parish Judge reduced the bail amount on Wednesday, April 24 of a St. Catherine man accused of accepting money under false pretences after he defrauded two individuals out of over $100,000 relating to an employment scam.

Presiding judge Sandria Wong-Small reduced the $150,000 bond to $100,000 for 25-year-old Bryan Payne after his lawyer Suwayne Phillips indicated that family members were having challenges with the original amount. The other conditions remain the same.

It is alleged that sometime in September 2017, the two complainants entered into an agreement with Payne for him to secure jobs for them in the Ministry of Health and paid him a combined sum of $117,000.

No jobs were forthcoming, so the complainants demanded their money. When their demands were not met the matter was reported to the police which resulted in the arrest of Payne.
