Jamaica News, St James: Four persons including an elderly couple were rushed to the Cornwall Regional Hospital and treated for injuries on Wednesday afternoon, February 20, following their involvements in a motor vehicle accident which totally locked down the Long Hill main road leading from Montego Bay, to Savanna-la-mar.
Reports are that shortly after 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday, the driver of a construction trailer truck was travelling from Anchovy towards Reading.
On reaching a section of the Long Hill main road the truck developed mechanical problems, causing the driver to loose control.
The driver swerved to his right to avoid plunging over the hundred foot gorge below and crashed into three vehicles which were travelling in the opposite direction.
The truck then pushed the couple’s Toyota motorcar over the edge of the gorge. The vehicle capsized over the edge but luckily for the couple, several trees blocked the path of the vehicle hindering it from crashing below.
The accident totally blocked that section of roadway and resulted in a traffic pile-up for miles stretching back to Reading and to Anchovy. The police were summoned and after the injured persons were transported to hospital, it took them several hours to clear the roadway and to have the traffic restored to normality.
