KINGSTON, Jamaica — The Kingston Eastern police have launched an investigation following an incident on Saturday afternoon in which a licensed firearm holder accidentally discharged his weapon, injuring himself.
According to initial reports, the 55-year-old man was seated in his vehicle around 1 p.m. when his firearm discharged, striking him in the leg. The incident occurred near a school, though no other injuries were reported.
Despite his injury, the man was able to drive himself to the University Hospital of the West Indies, where he received medical treatment. The matter was subsequently reported to the police.
Authorities have since seized the firearm as they conduct a thorough investigation into the circumstances of the discharge.
