Kingston, Jamaica — A quick-thinking licensed firearm holder thwarted a robbery attempt outside the Scotiabank parking lot on Port Royal Street in downtown Kingston Monday afternoon, leaving the would-be robber wounded and on the run.
Reports are that around 3:40 p.m., a woman was walking toward her vehicle when a man allegedly accosted her and tried to steal her belongings.
Eyewitnesses say a licensed firearm holder, who was nearby, intervened during the struggle and fired at the assailant.
The suspect was reportedly shot but managed to escape the scene before police arrived.
The incident has left business owners and employees in the area shaken, even as many praised the intervention of the armed citizen.
Police are continuing their investigations and are urging anyone with information to contact them.
