Kingston, Jamaica — A Kingston woman accused of swindling millions from a prospective land buyer has been given just over four months to repay the full amount, following a ruling in the Kingston and St Andrew Parish Court on Tuesday.
Cheryl Moore is accused of obtaining $2.7 million under false pretences after allegedly posing as the seller of three parcels of land. According to court documents, the complainant became interested in purchasing the properties and paid Moore the sum, despite not being shown any official land titles or proof of ownership.
When the ownership transfer failed to materialize, the buyer reported the matter to police. Investigations later revealed that Moore was not listed as the legal owner of the properties and had no authority to sell them. The actual owner reportedly confirmed that he had never given Moore, or anyone else, permission to sell the land.
Moore, who appeared before Senior Parish Judge Sanchia Burrell, did not address the court directly, but her attorney stated that she has already repaid more than $1 million of the total amount. She has committed to repaying the remainder by her next court appearance, scheduled for September 15.
The case remains under judicial review.
