One of two men, who attempted to rape a female in broad daylight at a house in Barton district, St Elizabeth, on Monday, was later captured by angry residents and beaten almost to death.
The residents are currently combing sections of the community in search of the other man.
Reports by the police are that the incident occurred in broad daylight on Monday, while other family members had left the home, and the female was alone.
Both men who are still unidentified, and said to be from Kingston addresses, went to the house located in the small farm community, and attempted to abduct and sexually molest the female, who managed to run to a neighbor’s house.
An alarm was raised, and residents in the community rushed to her assistance.
The men were chased and cornered at a river, where one was caught and beaten, but the other man managed to jump into the river and is still at large.
The alleged rapist was handed over to the police and is presently at hospital under police guard.
