Police in Kingston are investigating the fatal shooting of a 32-year-old man in the early hours of Monday morning, which may have resulted from mistaken identity.
The deceased has been identified as Tevin Sherwood, a resident of the area. Authorities report that around 12:45 a.m., armed men approached a motor vehicle parked along Gordon Road off Slipe Pen Road and opened fire. Sherwood, who was washing the vehicle at the time, was struck and later pronounced dead. Investigators believe the gunmen may have been targeting the vehicle’s owner rather than Sherwood.
Residents of Gordon Road described Sherwood as a quiet individual with no known criminal connections, expressing shock at the violent incident.
In response to the shooting, the Kingston Western Police have implemented a 48-hour curfew in certain sections of the division. The restrictions took effect at 6 p.m. on Monday and will remain in force until 6 p.m. Wednesday.
Police data indicates that, as of February 7, the Kingston Western Division had recorded two murders for the year. Investigations into Sherwood’s killing are ongoing.
