KINGSTON, Jamaica — A 35-year-old man has been slapped with several criminal charges following an alleged assault and robbery that occurred on Valentine’s Day along West Street in the capital.
The accused, Christopher Chambers, otherwise called “Zeeks,” of Waltham Park Road, Kingston, faces charges of assault at common law, robbery with aggravation, possession of a prohibited weapon, using a firearm to commit a felony, unlawful wounding, and assault occasioning bodily harm.
According to police reports, the incident took place about 10:35 p.m. on Saturday, February 14. Investigators allege that Chambers approached a woman, forcibly grabbed her, and violently squeezed her throat. He reportedly brandished a firearm and used it to strike her several times, leaving her with bruises and swelling.
Authorities further reported that the accused stole the woman’s handbag containing $71,000 in cash, along with personal items valued at approximately $20,000.
The injured woman was assisted by passersby and later reported the matter to the police. Chambers was taken into custody on Sunday and formally charged.
A court date is now being arranged.
