Kingston, Jamaica — A 22-year-old higgler, Quaitin Saunders, also known as ‘Old Joe’, has been charged with multiple firearm-related offenses following his arrest during a police operation on Roselle Main Road, St Thomas, on Wednesday.
Saunders, who resides at Plaza Road, Kingston, and Blacksmith Lane, Seaforth, St Thomas, faces charges of:
• Possession of a prohibited weapon
• Dealing in prohibited weapons
• Unauthorised possession of ammunition
The arrest occurred around 7:40 a.m. during a vehicular checkpoint operation conducted by police officers.
According to reports, Saunders was aboard a public passenger bus when the police noticed him suspiciously placing a bag between his feet. Upon searching the bag, officers discovered:
• One Taurus 9mm pistol
• Three magazines
• 30 rounds of ammunition
Following the discovery, Saunders was taken into custody and formally charged. He is scheduled to appear before the Morant Bay Parish Court on Wednesday, April 2.
Police officials have indicated that the operation was part of ongoing efforts to crack down on the illegal possession and trafficking of firearms in the parish. Investigations are continuing as law enforcement seeks to determine whether Saunders is connected to any broader criminal networks.
