Kingston, Jamaica – Kayodi Satchell, a dental assistant, has pleaded guilty to the murder of eight-year-old Danielle Rowe, whose abduction and death in June last year sparked national outrage. Satchell was also convicted of child stealing for kidnapping Danielle from Braeton Primary and Infant School in Portmore, St Catherine.
During court proceedings, Satchell’s attorney, Pierre Rogers, requested time to prepare a plea in mitigation before sentencing. The prosecutor is currently presenting the facts of the case.
On June 8 last year, Danielle was abducted from her school in broad daylight, a crime that sent shockwaves through the community. Later that day, the young girl was found on Roosevelt Avenue in St Andrew with her throat slashed. She was rushed to the Bustamante Hospital for Children, where she died two days later.
A post-mortem confirmed that Danielle’s death was caused by an incised wound to her neck. After weeks of intense investigation, police arrested Satchell on August 11, and she was charged with murder shortly after.
The case gripped the nation, with calls for greater security measures in schools and stronger laws to protect children from violence. As the court prepares for sentencing, many await the outcome, seeking justice for the young life cut short in such a horrific manner.
