Justin Burrowes Open Golf Championship

Justin Burrowes Qualifies for Texas State Open Golf Championship

Jamaican professional golfer Justin Burrowes has qualified for the 56th M&P Group Texas State Open Golf Championship, which is being held from Tuesday, July 28 to Friday, July 31 at Cascades Country Club in Tyler, Texas. He will tee off alongside a field of 155 golfers competing for a projected purse of US$200,000.

Burrowes secured his place in the prestigious championship on his third attempt at qualifying and is eager to test his game against a strong field that includes PGA of America professionals and other highly experienced competitors.

“I feel super excited. I’m super happy that I’ve qualified. I think this is my third year trying to qualify. First time getting through the qualifier, which I’m obviously really happy about. I played well in my qualifying round. I feel like my game is in a good place. Each day at a time, I feel like I’m proving to myself more and more that my game is good enough to compete.

“Obviously, the tournament is going to be four days. It’s the middle of summer, so it’s going to be hot. I’m sure it’s going to come with challenges. I don’t think it’s going to be necessarily easy by any means, but I feel like if I go out there, execute and play my game, I’ll be able to manage myself and give myself a good chance. Overall, I’m just very happy and excited for the event,” Burrowes said.

Burrowes turned professional in 2023 during the 56th Jamaica Open Golf Championship at Tryall Golf Club in Hanover. Before joining the professional ranks, he established himself as one of Jamaica’s most accomplished amateur golfers, representing the island at numerous regional and international competitions, including the Caribbean Amateur Junior Golf Championship (CAJGC), the Caribbean Amateur Golf Championship and the Latin America Amateur Championship.

He remains the only Jamaican to win the Boys Under-18 title at the Caribbean Amateur Junior Golf Championship and consistently contributed valuable points whenever selected to represent Jamaica. Burrowes also served as captain of the national team on several occasions.

President of the Jamaica Golf Association, Jodi Munn-Barrow, congratulated Burrowes on qualifying for the Texas State Open and expressed confidence that he will deliver a strong performance against the championship’s elite field.
