The Jamaica Hotel and Tourist Association (JHTA) has thrown its support behind the proposed Lionel Densham Aerodrome in St Elizabeth, saying the development could strengthen tourism along Jamaica’s south coast.
The association described the project as a strategic investment that could improve air connections, shorten travel times and encourage further investment in the region.
It also pointed to the development’s potential to support recovery efforts following Hurricane Melissa.
Transport Minister Daryl Vaz recently indicated that technical studies and the approvals needed to move the project forward are being finalised.
While endorsing the proposal, the JHTA urged the Government to ensure meaningful consultation with communities as part of the project’s socioeconomic and environmental assessments.
