KINGSTON, Jamaica – The Jamaica Constabulary Force (JCF) has received a donation of 27 new Toyota Land Cruisers from the Government of Japan to bolster its law enforcement capabilities.
The official handover ceremony took place on Tuesday at the Offices of the Commissioner of Police. The vehicles, equipped with enhanced communication systems for clear and audible command delivery, will be deployed for patrols, investigations, and other critical police operations.
Japanese Ambassador to Jamaica, Yasuhiro Atsumi, presented the vehicles to JCF officials. Attending the ceremony were Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of National Security, Dr. Horace Chang, and Deputy Commissioner of Police Karina Powell-Hood, who represented Commissioner of Police Kevin Blake.
In her remarks, Powell-Hood emphasized the significance of the new fleet, stating, “The addition of these vehicles to our fleet, especially [during] the yuletide season, represents more than just additional resources. It is an investment in the effectiveness of our operations [and the] mobility of our officers, and the safety of our communities.”
The Japanese Government’s contribution highlights the growing bilateral cooperation between Jamaica and Japan, particularly in areas of security and development. Dr. Chang expressed gratitude for the donation, noting its role in strengthening the JCF’s operational reach as the nation works to enhance public safety.
The vehicles are expected to play a pivotal role in increasing police visibility and response times, particularly during the busy holiday season.
