The Jamaica Constabulary Force (JCF) says it has dealt a significant blow to the alleged Genasyde criminal network after charging 19 people, including the group’s reputed leader, under the Criminal Justice (Suppression of Criminal Organisations) Act.
Among those charged is 39-year-old Tefari Green, otherwise called “Scoobs” or “Scrappy”, who police allege continued directing the organisation while incarcerated on another matter. He has been charged with leading a criminal organisation.
The charges follow an investigation by the JCF’s Specialised Investigations Branch (SIB), which police say uncovered the alleged gang’s involvement in murders, shootings and robberies committed between 2021 and 2026 in Kingston, St. Andrew, St. Catherine, St. Thomas and St. James.
Police said 18 men and one woman were arrested during targeted operations before being formally charged.
Those charged with being members of a criminal organisation are Damion Taylor, Tywaine Campbell, Andrew Atkins, Terrence Grant, Mashel Ward, Andre Wright, Reko Hylton, Kemar Clarke, Ian Johnson, Cranston Hutchinson, Nicquan Thomas, Kymani Griffiths, Dujuan Dixon, Jermaine Senior, Daniel Annon and Jaylee Henry.
Nicholas Henry has been charged with providing a benefit to a criminal organisation.
Investigators allege the Genasyde Gang emerged from a split within the Tel-a-Viv faction of Parade Gardens following an internal power struggle after the 2010 Tivoli Gardens security operation. Police say the gang later became involved in a long-running and violent feud with the Darksyde gang, a conflict that spread beyond Parade Gardens into other parts of the Corporate Area and overseas.
The rivalry gained national attention in 2021 after a series of deadly shootings linked to the feud, including the killing of innocent bystanders and children. The violence also extended to New York, where one of the reputed Darksyde leaders, Donald Nash, otherwise known as “Likkle Danny”, was fatally shot in Brooklyn.
Deputy Superintendent of Police Kevin Johnson, who heads the National Strategic Anti-Gang Division, said the JCF remains committed to dismantling criminal organisations and urged members of the public to support the police by providing information.
Police say investigations into the alleged criminal network are continuing.
