The Jamaica Constabulary Force (JCF) successfully captured a wanted man during an intensive security operation in Hartford, Westmoreland, on Wednesday. The arrested individual has been identified as Nicholas Muthra of Benta district, Withorn in the parish.
Muthra was linked to the November 10, 2024, murder of Iwayne Bennett, otherwise known as “Mad Dog,” in Bastard Cedar Walk. His capture marks a significant breakthrough in the ongoing efforts to curb crime and apprehend dangerous fugitives in the area.
According to the JCF, Muthra’s arrest was a result of “Operation Reassurance” — a large-scale initiative aimed at restoring order and bolstering public confidence in the Westmoreland Division. The operation has been instrumental in addressing the spike in criminal activities that have plagued the parish in recent months.
Led by Superintendent Othneil Dobson, “Operation Reassurance” mobilized a formidable team of personnel drawn from multiple agencies. These include members of the Jamaica Defence Force (JDF), the Area One Fugitive Apprehension Team, Specialised Operations, the Lottery Scamming Task Force, Traffic and Highway Patrol, and the Divisional Quick Response Unit.
The operation also involved key support from partner agencies such as the Transport Authority, underscoring the collaborative approach being taken to improve security and dismantle criminal networks across the region.
Superintendent Dobson commended the team’s swift and coordinated efforts, noting that Muthra’s capture sends a strong message to other fugitives: “The JCF remains relentless in its pursuit of individuals who seek to destabilize our communities. We will continue to act decisively to bring perpetrators to justice.”
The JCF is urging members of the public to assist in their ongoing efforts by providing information that may lead to the capture of other wanted individuals or support investigations. Persons can contact the nearest police station, Crime Stop at 311, or the JCF tip line.
