FREEPORT, The Bahamas (CMC) – Two Jamaican women are facing deportation from The Bahamas after admitting to prostitution charges in a Freeport court. Mikaela Selena Jacas, 28, and Toshema Tana Lee Steer, 31, appeared before Magistrate LaQuay Laing in the Freeport Magistrate’s Court.
The women were apprehended by immigration officers on April 30 at different locations within Freeport. During their court appearance, both Jacas and Steer expressed remorse for their actions, apologizing to the court for the embarrassment they had brought upon themselves, their home country of Jamaica, and The Bahamas.
They pleaded with the Magistrate for leniency.
However, Magistrate Laing emphasized the seriousness and unacceptability of their actions, imposing a fine of US$500 on each woman. The Magistrate further stated that failure to pay the fine would result in a six-month prison sentence.
Following the payment of the fines or the completion of any custodial sentence, Jacas and Steer were informed that they would be handed over to immigration authorities for deportation proceedings.
