New York, USA – A Jamaican national is facing multiple charges in the United States after he was arrested for allegedly shoplifting at a popular mall in New York on Monday. He is now in the custody of U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE).
Rammeike Campbell, 27, who resides in Queens, New York, was apprehended by Nassau County Police after he was reportedly caught stealing merchandise from Macy’s at the Green Acres Mall in Valley Stream. According to police, Campbell concealed items in a shopping bag and exited the store without paying.
Loss prevention officers stopped him and handed him over to the police. He was arrested without incident.
Further investigations revealed that Campbell had also stolen merchandise from a Forever 21 store within the same mall. Authorities said he provided false identification to police during his arrest.
Campbell has been charged with grand larceny, criminal possession of stolen property, false impersonation, and petty larceny.
It was later confirmed that Campbell is in the U.S. illegally and had an outstanding Warrant of Removal issued by an immigration judge, ordering his deportation. Following his release on an appearance ticket, he was taken into custody by ICE agents.
ICE officials have not yet announced when deportation proceedings will resume.
The case is being closely monitored by both local law enforcement and federal immigration authorities.
