Attorney Isat Buchanan was greeted by an excited crowd of People’s National Party (PNP) supporters in Port Antonio, just a day after being announced as the party’s candidate for East Portland.
On Wednesday, supporters gathered near the ruins of Musgrave Market, chanting “Buchanan time come!” and blocking streets to greet him. Entering representational politics for the first time, Buchanan expressed his gratitude, vowing to serve as a representative who listens and elevates the community. He is set to challenge incumbent Ann-Marie Vaz of the Jamaica Labour Party in the next election.
Buchanan, a first-time candidate, is confident about his chances in the race to reclaim the seat for the PNP, which Vaz won in 2019 and secured again in 2020 with a significant margin.
