Infant Fatally Shot by Toddler in San Antonio Parking Lot

A baby was accidentally shot and killed by a toddler who got hold of a loaded gun while they were in a parked car near a medical center in San Antonio, Texas, on Monday.

According to San Antonio Police Chief William McManus, three children—ages 3, 2, and 10 or 11 months—were in the back seat, along with a woman. One of the older children got hold of a loaded long gun from the rear of the vehicle and accidentally pulled the trigger, fatally shooting the youngest child.

Chief McManus called the event a “terrible tragedy” during a press briefing. Paramedics from the nearby VA hospital attempted to save the infant, but the child was pronounced dead at the scene. The relationship between the woman and the children has not been confirmed, and police are continuing their investigation.
