Clarendon, Jamaica — The Independent Commission of Investigations (INDECOM) has launched a probe into a shooting incident in Sandy Bay, Clarendon, that left one alleged robber dead and two others fleeing.
Reports indicate the incident unfolded shortly after 2:00 a.m. on Monday at a gaming establishment in the Coffee Shop community, reportedly owned by a policeman.
According to police reports, loud explosions were heard at the premises before it was discovered that men had allegedly forced entry using a crowbar. During the incident, the policeman reportedly opened fire, hitting three men.
One of the injured men was taken to hospital, where he was later pronounced dead. The two other men reportedly escaped the area on foot.
Investigators said a crowbar was recovered at the scene as inquiries continue into the circumstances surrounding the shooting.
Sources indicate the business has been targeted by thieves on multiple occasions, including a reported break-in last Saturday. It is also understood the owner had recently replaced poker boxes stolen during a previous incident.
INDECOM and the police are continuing investigations.
