A Jamaican man convicted in connection with a 2009 murder in the Bronx has been deported to Jamaica following the completion of his prison sentence in the United States.
U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) confirmed that Kemar Hamilton, a Jamaican national, was removed from the United States on January 8. Hamilton had been convicted in 2012 for the fatal shooting of 58-year-old Edgar McCalla during a robbery outside McCalla’s Bronx home on February 19, 2009.
Authorities reported that the case remained unresolved for several years before investigators linked Hamilton to the crime through DNA evidence recovered from a prepaid cellphone left at the scene.
According to ICE, Hamilton entered the United States illegally in 2008 and was later ordered removed by an immigration judge in December 2009. However, the deportation order was not executed at that time due to the pending criminal proceedings and subsequent incarceration.
Officials stated that Hamilton was taken into ICE custody in October 2025 upon his release from a New York correctional facility. He remained detained until his removal to Jamaica earlier this year.
ICE reiterated that the removal aligns with its enforcement priorities targeting non-citizens convicted of serious criminal offenses.
