The police in St. Ann report that a fire, which destroyed a house and all its contents in Richmond district on Saturday, may have been caused by an electrical short circuit.
Reports indicate that around 5:30 AM on Saturday, the family woke up to find a fire coming from a section of the large dwelling house and immediately ran from the building.
They then alerted the fire department and the police and attempted to put out the blaze.
Their attempts were unsuccessful, and when firefighters arrived on the scene minutes later, they found the building completely engulfed in flames.
Firefighters managed to extinguish the fire after a while, but not before the house and all its contents were destroyed.
Damages are estimated at over $50 million, and it is reported that the house was insured.
