Ocho Rios Redevelopment: Prime Minister the Most Hon. Andrew Holness has unveiled ambitious plans for the redevelopment of Ocho Rios in St. Ann, citing its rapid expansion as a catalyst for substantial investment.
“In terms of scale, we are looking at investments in the billions of dollars. The entire town of Ocho Rios is poised for redevelopment,” stated Mr. Holness, emphasizing the need to modernize infrastructure to accommodate the town’s burgeoning population and burgeoning economic activities.
Addressing stakeholders during a recent visit to the Ocho Rios market, Mr. Holness acknowledged the town’s growth and the accompanying surge in residential and commercial developments. He underscored the necessity for immediate investments, starting with enhancements to the market facilities.
“The existing infrastructure is inadequate to support the current demands. Our foremost priority is to upgrade the market and transportation center,” affirmed the Prime Minister, outlining plans for a comprehensive revitalization that includes improvements to sanitation facilities and the creation of pedestrian-friendly zones.
During the tour, Mr. Holness inspected ongoing projects and assessed the physical conditions on the ground, aligning these with existing development plans. He assured stakeholders of imminent changes aimed at improving the town’s livability and economic vitality.
Accompanying Mr. Holness on the tour were Minister without Portfolio in the Ministry of Economic Growth and Job Creation, Senator the Hon. Matthew Samuda; Mayor of St. Ann’s Bay, Councillor Michael Belnavis; Deputy Mayor of St. Ann’s Bay, Councillor Dallas Dickenson; and Senior Strategist and Advisor in the Ministry of Tourism, Delano Seiveright. The visit also included inspections of educational facilities and infrastructure developments across the parish, demonstrating the government’s commitment to fostering sustainable growth in St. Ann.
