Kingston, Jamaica – Prime Minister Andrew Holness has strongly denied claims circulating from PNP operatives that he maintains 28 bank accounts, following the tabling of his Integrity Commission report on his finances.
Holness made the rebuttal while responding to Opposition Leader Mark Golding, who raised concerns about controversial salary increases for members of the political directorate.
“The leader of Opposition says, ‘I have 28 bank accounts’. That is absolutely not true!” Holness declared, stressing that he never took his salary increase, while Golding accepted his as Opposition leader.
Holness explained that the Integrity Commission report included closed accounts, dormant accounts, insurance accounts, and investment accounts, but said the figures had been weaponized against him.
He added: “In my own Integrity Commission report published in Parliament, there were no findings of corruption. All my assets are in Jamaica, and I have declared everything to the Integrity Commission. None of my resources are ever connected to any public funds or public resources.”
Golding fired back, insisting his statutory declarations have been certified every year as proper, while questioning Holness’ own declarations.
Holness ended by reaffirming his transparency: “I am not currently under any investigation… I, Andrew Holness, am thoroughly transparent.”
The heated exchange highlighted the financial accountability debate at the heart of the election campaign, with both leaders defending their integrity and records.
