St Catherine, Jamaica – A Haitian man who entered Jamaica illegally has been sentenced to 10 days in prison and ordered deported following his appearance in the St Catherine Parish Court on Tuesday.
The man, identified as Donigneson St-Fort, pleaded guilty to the charge of illegal entry after being captured during a police operation in Old Harbour Bay, St Catherine, on May 22.
According to court reports, the incident occurred around 2:00 a.m. when law enforcement officers observed St-Fort running through a fence into an unfinished building. He was quickly pursued and apprehended by the police.
Upon questioning, St-Fort admitted he was a Haitian national who frequently visited Jamaica. A search of his belongings revealed a passport without an immigration landing stamp, confirming that he had entered the country unlawfully.
He was taken into custody at the Old Harbour Police Station, where he reportedly told officers, “I love Jamaica and will always return, Haiti is wicked.”
St-Fort was formally charged and brought before the court, where he pleaded guilty. The judge sentenced him to 10 days’ imprisonment, after which he will be handed over to the Passport, Immigration and Citizenship Agency (PICA) for deportation.
