MANCHESTER, Jamaica — A night of bloodshed unfolded in Porus, Manchester, on Tuesday, leaving three people, including an alleged gunman, dead in a series of violent events that have shaken the community.
Police reports indicate that at approximately 7:35 p.m., a gunman entered a bar in Porus and opened fire, killing two people—a female bartender and a male patron. Another man standing outside the establishment was also shot but managed to flee, collapsing mere meters from the Porus Police Station. He was subsequently taken to the hospital for treatment.
The deceased bartender has been identified by relatives as Sashagaye Chambers, also known as “Chin,” a resident of Redberry, Manchester. The identity of the second murder victim has not yet been released.
In a swift response to the double murder, police were alerted and pursued the alleged gunman, who attempted to escape via a train line near the bar. The gunman reportedly boarded a waiting motorcycle as officers closed in.
A police source described a dramatic “running gun battle” that unfolded, spanning the train line, the Porus main road, and the adjoining Redberry main road. The chase ended when the gunman was fatally shot during an exchange of gunfire with law enforcement
The police have launched an investigation into the double murder and the subsequent events leading to the gunman’s death.
